Co-op Local Community Fund

The latest round of Co-op Local Community Fund is now open, which means that Co-op members can choose to give 1% of what they spend on Co-op branded products and services to Borders Pet Rescue!

How the fund works

Every time Co-op members buy Co‑op branded products and services, from buying a loaf of bread to planning a funeral, 1% of their spend goes to a local cause, like us here at Borders Pet Rescue. For the 6 months we’re part of the fund the money builds up and we’ll receive the funding at the end of the 6 months.

How you can help

  • Become a Co‑op member
  • Choose Borders Pet Rescue as your cause by signing into your online account at www.coop.co.uk/membership
  • Buy co-op branded products and services and we’ll get 1% of what you spend

What we plan to do with the money we get

The money raised from this fund will be going towards dog agility equipment for our exercise area. We spend a lot of time giving the dogs in our care 1-to-1 training and attention, and agility is a great activity which we would love to do with our dogs for some extra bonding, training, exercise (for dogs and humans!) and of course for just having some fun!

Our new exotics room

With the arrival of our first 2 Bearded Dragons, we are excited to open our new Exotics room. We are currently running it as a trial project but there seems to be high demand for exotics both needing rehomed and people looking to adopt.

You can find out about Etzio and Sauskie by clicking on their photos, or you can see our exotics in our “Small furries & Exotics” section HERE

If you have any spare exotics equipment or if you have an exotic you can no longer care for, please get in touch via email info@borderspetrescue.org or by phone 01896 849090

Our new charity shop in Kelso!

OUR NEW SHOP OPENING IN KELSO – 3 The Square adjacent to the RBS Bank

We opened our fourth Charity shop at 3 The Square, Kelso on 23rd January this year. The interior has been given a bright, modern and stylish makeover which many customers have commented favourably upon whilst offering a wide range of clothing, household items, collectables and bric-a-brac for sale.

Due to a high volume of sales, donations are constantly in demand and can be handed in to the shop during opening hours – 10am to 4pm Monday to Saturday.

Our Kelso Managers, Mo and Olivia, supported by their highly regarded team of volunteers, look

forward to welcoming you at the Kelso shop.

For any enquiries you can give them a ring on 01573 224430.

We urgently need to find a small team of local volunteers who can help us to set up the shop now and then to become key members of our shop staff once we are ready to open in mid January.
If you can spare a few hours per week and have either previous retail experience or an interest in our animal welfare work then we would really love to hear from you. You need to be outgoing and confident, helpful and considerate with customers and keen to help the charity to raise the funds we need to maintain our animal rescue and rehoming work.
If you are interested please click here to download an application form

Our charity shops depend entirely on the generosity of the public and local businesses in providing us with a constant flow of good quality items which we can resell. If you can offer us anything in good condition which you no longer need you will be helping to improve the lives of local animals in need of care.

We would be particularly grateful for any unwanted gifts, Christmas Presents, children’s toys, clean clothing, china, glassware, small household items, jewellery, collectable items, any bric-a brac in good condition. In fact just about anything which someone else might wish to buy at a modest price.
If you are a business with surplus goods, closing down, ends of ranges, or simply surplus stock please
consider donating these to support our hugely important animal welfare work.
Anyone interested in donating goods or volunteering at the Kelso shop should contact Mo Meehan on 07495 805055.
We hope to be able to open the shop around the middle of January.

Keep an eye on our Facebook or twitter for more information about this exciting venture and find out more about how you can help us by visiting our How You Can Help section!

Plant a Tree Day! – April 2017

On Sunday 2nd April 2017  at 10am we will be having a ‘plant a tree day’ at our dog exercise field which is around 10 acres in size.
The trees and shrubs form a vital element in the development of this fantastic resource for the charity and will add significantly to the biodiversity of this former grazing land.
We need your help to plant; our plan involves many hundreds of individual whips that need to be processed!
Please bring along a spade!

For more details please contact us at info@borderspetrescue.org
Many thanks

The Big Borders Dog Walk – Sunday 11th September 2016

BBDW 2016 edit

**Just Added**

We are also going to be holding a shorter sponsored walk on 11th September. This walk will take approx 30mins to an hour. If you would like to join in on either walk then contact the centre on info@borderspetrescue.org to sign up. The short walk is a great opportunity for pups to socialise with each other.

If you can’t make it to the walk yourself, why not SPONSOR ME!!

For those of you who don’t know me by now, my name is Rio and I’m currently being looked after by the people at Borders Pet Rescue in Earlston.
I’ve been here for a while now and I have decided that I want to take part in this year’s Big Borders Dog Walk. I have asked my friends at the centre to set up a sponsorship page for me and hopefully I can raise some money to help them build more kennels so they can help other dogs just like they’ve been helping me!

Dog walkers wanted!

IMG_2501 diesel KITCHEN

We are looking for experienced dog walkers to help with the daily exercising and socialising of our canine residents.

Many dogs are not lead trained which can mean they pull on lead and we need to start the training with them for good walking manners as soon as they arrive. We often have a variety of breeds, including larger dogs, so are looking for people who would also be able to comfortably handle these dogs.

Below is a list of the shifts we need help with the most, so if you feel you would like to volunteer, please email the centre on info@borderspetrescue.org for an application form

Monday – Mornings
Tuesday – Afternoons
Wednesday – Mornings
Thursday – Afternoons
Fridays – Afternoons
Saturday – Mornings & Afternoons
Sunday – Afternoons

Thank you!

Our new charity shop!

We’re opening a new charity shop in Hawick….and we’re going to need your help!

Our shops are a huge part of the vital fundraising we need for running the centre and looking after the animals, so we really do need all the help we can get!

hawick shop

In addition to volunteers to work in the shop, we will need donations of all sorts of items – men’s and women’s clothes, bric-a-brac, books, CDs, DVDs, small items of furniture, linen and so on. We are also looking for shopfittings – so if you can help with shelving, bookcases, hanging rails etc.. please get in touch.

We don’t know exactly when the shop will open…. probably towards the end of April – so keep an eye on our Facebook page for more details.

Meanwhile, if you would like to volunteer, please send for an application form by emailing: simonwallace@borderspetrescue.org or telephone the rescue centre on 01896 849090. If you have any goods to donate, or if you need any additional information, please use the same contact details.
